Emma

Hi, my name is Emma. I am 12 years old. I was diagnosed with scoliosis at the age of 11. I was at a dance competition when someone came up to me and said to go get my spine checked out. So me and my parents when to our local children’s hospital and they told me that I would need surgery in order to straighten my spine. I didn’t want surgery, but my parents knew that was probably what I was going to have to do.

My parents decided to get a second opinion. We found a world famous spine expert to make sure that surgery was the right thing to do. This doctor recommended that since I still had a lot of growing left, he told us that we should try a brace. So, I got sized to my brace and we got it a couple weeks later. I was a little scared, but I knew God wouldn’t put me through anything that I couldn’t do!

So here I am now, still in my brace hoping that it will help correct my spine. I have to wear my brace 16 hours a day. I am a dancer and a volleyball player. My brace hasn’t interfered with my favorite sports! It may have made a couple of changes to my schedules, but I am still doing sports and nothing can stop me from making my dreams come true!

I joined Curvy Girls because I wanted to find a group of girls that were going through the same thing as me. Also, so that I could help other girls who are going through this as well.
