Emma

Hi! My name is Emma, and I am a sophomore in high school. I enjoy reading, traveling, spending time with my friends, sketching, hiking, and anything active! I am a competitive swimmer and part of the varsity swim team at my school. When I was fourteen, I was diagnosed with scoliosis, which changed my life in ways I didn’t expect. At first I was confused about what this meant, but as I wore by brace for 22 hours a day and dedicated myself to physical therapy, I began to understand my body as well as who I am as a person.

Although I’ve been incredibly grateful to have supportive doctors, family members, and close friends encouraging me along the way, I often felt alone in my experience. I realized how powerful it would be to connect with other teens who truly understand what it’s like to live with scoliosis—the challenges, emotions, and victories that come with it. That’s why I wanted to be a Curvy Girls leader in Portland: to create a safe, supportive space for other girls like me to connect, share their stories, offer advice and encouragement, and empower one another as we continue on our journey. My hope is that this group becomes a place where we can build confidence, friendships, and strength—together.
