Hello, my name is Angela, I’m 17 years old, and I’m excited to be leading the Curvy Girls in Kentucky! My journey with scoliosis started in 2017, when I was diagnosed. Back then, I didn’t even know what scoliosis was! My curve was 42 degrees at the time, so I was put in a Boston brace immediately for 18 hours a day. As I got older, I was able to wear it for 16 hours, and then 12, until soon I didn’t have to wear it at all. However, my curve eventually worsened to over 50 degrees, and I had to have spinal fusion surgery two years ago to correct it. It was painful and I took the summer recovering, but I became stronger because of it. Now, I am nearly back to normal and I’m so grateful for the experiences I’ve had. In my free time, I enjoy running, creative writing, playing Dungeons and Dragons, and coding.

Throughout my scoliosis journey, I had strong support from my family, and I was very grateful. However, I still felt lonely and wished I had someone who’d gone through the same thing around my age that I could talk to. This spring, my sister was also diagnosed with mild scoliosis, and because I had already gone through this and was supporting her, everyone was much calmer. This experience made me realized how good it felt to be able to help her by sharing my experiences, and I remembered Curvy Girls Scoliosis, which I’d found but never looked into. I found there was no group leader in Kentucky and I wanted to be able to help girls in my region. I hope I am able to be a support system for young girls who are going through the same thing as me, and I’m excited to meet everyone in this wonderful group!
