Julsie

Hi! My name is Julsie! I am fifteen years old and currently a sophomore in high school in New Hampshire. In my free time, I love to read, paint, sew, and play the piano and guitar. I also love spending time with my family, dog, and friends. I am a member of the varsity ski team at my high school and recently started a new club called Sew For a Change, making dresses for girls without access! My favorite subjects are literature and history, although I love my biology and art classes as well.

I was diagnosed with scoliosis when I was twelve years old. I was braced and told to wear it for ten to twelve hours a day. I remember this coming as a surprise to me, however over time, I acclimated to wearing my brace and my curve improved. Currently, I am still braced. However, I only wear it at night for about seven to eight hours.

Being diagnosed with scoliosis is a shock that can change a person's lifestyle and mentality. As a member of Curvy Girls, I have been exposed to the scoliosis journeys of others and this has shown me another dimension of the resilience and tenacity of girls. Through leadership, I hope to pass this perspective onto others and show them that they are not alone by giving them a group of friends to help ease the challenges of scoliosis. I also hope to help other girls realize that a diagnosis does not define a person and that people with scoliosis can still do what they love and accomplish wonderful things!
