I’m a high school student from Texas, and I’m pretty involved in a mix of things — Teen Court, HOSA Biomedical Debate, and band, where I play the oboe. I’m into science, law, music, and honestly anything that lets me learn something new or meet interesting people. My scoliosis journey started when I was diagnosed young. I never did bracing, but my curve kept progressing, and eventually surgery became the best option. Since Texas had barely any VBT surgeons, my family and I ended up going all the way to New York City for my VBT surgery on July 10, 2024. It was definitely stressful, but it taught me a lot about being patient with myself and leaning on the people around me.

Being a Curvy Girls Leader means being someone girls with scoliosis can comfortably talk to — not in a formal way, just as someone who gets it. I want my group to feel like they’re heard and supported, whether they’re confused, nervous, or just need someone to relate to. My own experience, especially having to travel out of state for surgery, made me realize how much it helps to have people who understand what you’re going through. As a leader, I just want to make things a little easier for others and create a space where everyone feels comfortable and included.
