Meet Lilly & Kayla
Shenandoah Valley West Virginia

I am Michaela and I am 12 years old.  I love to cook, sew, run, crochet, knit, and sing.  I do a lot of singing in my church choir.

I was diagnosed with scoliosis when I was 12 years old and currently I have worn my brace for three weeks, but my twin has had hers for almost a year now.  I wear my Rigo Cheneau brace 21 to 22 hours a day.  I like to wear my brace on the outside because I don’t think that it is something to hide.

As a Curvy Girls’ Leader, I want to help girls with scoliosis feel a lot more comfortable with their condition.  I hope to create an environment where we all get along and have fun together.  I also want us all to grow more comfortable with sharing our journeys.

My name is Lillian and I am 12 years old. I love to crochet, knit, sing, play the flute, be outdoors, and do anything related to art. My scoliosis story is that I was diagnosed when I was 10 years old. We didn’t think too much of it, but later that year we went to the Pediatric Specialists of Virginia and they said I had a 28-degree curve. They braced me and in brace I had an 8-degree curve. About 6 months after I had a big growth spurt and I am now a 36-degree curve. I had to get a new brace and we are hoping this one works.

My sister and I wanted to start a Curvy Girls’ group because we knew some kids in our community that could use this support group, plus we didn’t have one around us. We are so happy to lead the Curvy Girls of the Shenandoah Valley.

Meet Emma
Western West Virginia

Hello Everyone! My name is Emma and I am 17 years old. I love riding horses, hiking and spending time with my Golden Retriever!

When I was fourteen, I found out that I had Idiopathic Scoliosis at a sport’s physical. We decided to try a Boston Brace which I wore all day, every day (except when showering) for a year. Sadly, my curve got worse and was 54 degrees in an “S” shaped curve. When my parents told me I needed surgery, I was devastated. However, with an amazing support group and a brave, positive attitude I made it!

I am so excited to be a part of Curvy Girls. During my surgery, I felt so alone in the sense that nobody else was going through what I was. Thankfully, there is a bunch of us here to support each other!
