Hi! My name is Amy and I'm from Manitoba. I'm 18 years old, and my scoliosis was found in December of 2012. My curve was 47 degrees. For almost 2 years I worked with a physiotherapist to do different treatments. I had a lot of daily pain and after a long wait the doctors decided surgery was my best option. At the end of October 2014, I had surgery! I am fused from T5- L4. I'm so glad I did this and have been enjoying not having the pain I used too.
I attended the convention in 2014, and became very inspired to share my story and positivity with others. I am very excited for the 2018 convention to come back as someone post surgery! I'm very glad I found Curvy Girls and the amazing support. Everyone needs to know that they are not alone and we are always stronger together.
My name is Mikayla and I am so excited to be the new leader for the Curvy Girls Vancouver Chapter! I am currently a competitive dancer and am just about to start high school. Outside of school and dance activities, I like to draw, paint, read, and hang out with friends. I also enjoy any chance I get to make someone smile or laugh.
I was diagnosed with scoliosis when I was eight and got my first brace then too. I was scared but since I was so young, I didn't care as much about how I looked or what other people thought. As I got older I got more and more self-conscious about those things. I didn't want anyone to know about the plastic brace under my baggy hoodies. When I first found the CG Instagram I saw people who were not afraid to share their stories and happy to educate others. They turned into really big role models for me because I wanted to do that too. As I started to go to more and more meetings, I came out of my shell and am now so happy to be becoming a leader! I love sharing my story and educating others. I am on my fourth brace now and my journey is still not over. I am so excited to learn about scoliosis for other people and hear their stories as well. Thank you so much CG for this opportunity!
