Liya

My name is Lyailya, but feel free to call me Elle. I am from Kaszakstan, which is located in the Central Asia.

I love sports. I tried various types of sports - gymnastics, dancing, running, and eventually settled down as a professional swimmer. I have been swimming for almost 6 years. I am a creative person by nature, so I enjoy music, create and distribute my own music on all platforms. I like to say to my friends that music heals my soul. I play instruments-- piano, guitar and our national dombyra. Also, I write poems which live their life in the pages of my website. I have some background on a frontend web development.

My parents discovered my scoliosis when I was 4 years old.  However, treatment began when I turned 10 and had a curve of 40 degrees with S-shaped Idiopathic scoliosis.

As we looked through the all ways of scoliosis treatment we chose alternative treatment. Surgical fusion seemed for us really dangerous with some drawbacks. So it has been almost 6 years since I started wearing a Cheneau brace. Also, I do special exercises for scoliosis. Right now I have the curve of 36 degree.

I want to start CG group in Kazakhstan because every time when I go to the hospital in order to make a new brace, I see lots of girls that are lost. They don’t know what scoliosis is and how to cope with their condition. They think that they are alone and nobody can understand what they are going through. We all know that wearing a brace for 22 hours a day is a heroic attempt. We sweat and our skin is rubbed so badly.

To conclude, I’d like to say knowing that you are not alone in our situation, knowinng that you have peers that can understand and support you, gives you a feeling of fulfilment and power of moving forward.
