Gabrielle
My name is Gabrielle and I am a seventeen-year-old first-year student. I am working towards completing my Pre-Health Studies Certificate to then go on to get my Bachelor's Degree in General Nursing. I have a love for baking, planning, music, travel, and helping others.
At the age of 10, I had an unbearable pain in my back one day after school and when I went to the doctorthey immediately referred me for x-rays. I was then diagnosed with idiopathic scoliosis. I had a double curve. Doctors suggested surgery, which was very scary to me as a young girl. Instead, I attended swimming classes and also sought treatment from multiple chiropractors and physiotherapists. Seven years later, I finally understood that a spinal fusion surgery was the best choice for me. I am currently three weeks post-op and I still believe I made the right choice.
I want to be a group leader because this journey has not been easy for me and I would like to give other girls support throughout their journey. Scoliosis can have a tremendous impact on a young person and having someone to talk to who can relate is very beneficial.
