I’m Chantal, a 20-year-old girl. I like playing the piano, reading, and go café hopping during my free time. Diagnosed with scoliosis at the age of 12, I’ve worn a brace and tried different remedies to cure my curve, but my curve just kept progressing. Losing self-confidence as the curve worsens, the biggest lesson I’ve learned from scoliosis is probably self-love. Fighting with scoliosis might be desperate and lonely, but all of us deserve to be loved despite our illness.
Scoliosis is a common illness among teenagers in Hong Kong. However, people have inadequate knowledge about the illness that make it even harder for scoliosis patients to open up and find a companion. When I was fighting with scoliosis alone, I really hoped to be understood and accepted. Therefore, I hope we could embrace each other through the scoliosis support group and raise scoliosis awareness in Hong Kong.
