My name is Alexis. I am 11 ½ years old and I live in Bismarck, ND. In March 2018, I was diagnosed with scoliosis and have been doctoring ever since, to treat the 2 curves in my back, and the one curve in my neck. I now wear a brace and do physical therapy to correct my back and make sure the scoliosis doesn’t progress.
I love creating art – art of all kinds! And, I love to dance! I have been dancing the age of 3, and am a competitive dancer. I also love doing public speaking at schools, businesses and different organizations. I have held various pageant titles and I love doing volunteer work. I also spread scoliosis awareness to school nurses and pediatricians.
When I was first diagnosed with scoliosis, I didn’t know many girls in my area who were dealing with the same thing that I was. I know that having good, supportive friends is important, and I was wondering where to find these girls who would know and understand what I am going through. I know that other girls would find this helpful, too, and we would become good friends over shared experiences.
I consider myself to be a leader every day in school and in the many activities I am involved in. I wanted to start a Curvy Girls group in my community and state and be a leader so that others girls like me have a supportive place to chat, connect with each other, and find resources that will be helpful.
