Hi, I’m Kate! I live in the Central Valley of California and am a sophomore in high school. I enjoy spending time with friends, doing archery, painting, and competing in math competitions. I also love music -- from listening to songs to playing the bass in orchestras, chamber groups, wind ensembles, and jazz band! When I was diagnosed with scoliosis at 8 years old, I was immediately put into a brace, and my life changed. After wearing my Boston brace diligently 23 hours every day for 4 years, my curve severely progressed, so I underwent vertebral body tethering (VBT) surgery. After, I wore a Providence brace at night until I turned 16. Remarkably, I healed quickly, reduced pain, and maintained flexibility in my back.

While I had incredible care from my doctors, family, and friends, I often longed to relate to someone my own age who shared my experiences with scoliosis. By becoming a Curvy Girls Leader in my community, I hope to fulfill this role for other girls with scoliosis who seek comfort and support. Creating a safe space to share stories, advice, and frustrations alike, every girl on her scoliosis journey is welcome!
