My name is Gigi and I’m 13 years old. I live in Boulder, CO and I am in 8th grade. Last June I was diagnosed with scoliosis. I kind of knew what scoliosis was because my mom wore a back brace for 4 years starting her 8th grade year. My curves are 29 and 18 degrees. I got my brace September 29, 2011 in San Mateo, CA. It was fun to pick out the color of my brace and to learn about the brace too. I’m wearing a Rigo System Cheneau about 20 hours per day.
I started the Schroth Method a week before I got my brace. I do
it 30 minutes a day, 5 days a week. It’s easy and fun to do and
the Schroth instructor’s office is 5 minutes from my school. I
do Schroth once a week with another scoliosis client. It’s fun
to do with someone else because we get to talk and support each
other. I found out about Curvy Girls from my Schroth
instructor, Julie. I was sad there wasn’t a Colorado group
but I’m excited to start a Colorado group because I want to meet
other Curvy Girls.
I am very serious about ballet and I’ve been dancing for over 2
years. I like learning new stuff and performing and
challenging myself. I enjoy meeting people and working
with the company dancers at the larger performances, classes and
rehearsals. I’m happy that nothing changed with my dancing
when I found out I had scoliosis and I needed a brace.
I enjoy spending time with my family, making duct tape flowers,
candy, and my two kitty cats, Pickles and Callista.
